The appointment of Ehud Yatom as head of the government's counter-terrorism task force and advisor to the Prime Minister must be revoked
The Public Committee against Torture in Israel yesterday called on Attorney General Elyakim Rubinstein demanding that he revoke the appointment of Ehud Yatom as head the government's couter-terrorism task force and as an advisor to the Prime Minister.
In its appeal the Public Committee Against Torture in Israel reminded Attorney General Rubinstein of Yatom's involvement in the Bus 300 Affair, the fact that he admitted killing the terrorists with a rock and that he was disqulified from serving in any public office calling on Rubinstein to prevent Sharon from carrying out an appointment which is "blatantly immoral".
Hannah Friedman, Executive Director of the Public Committee against Torture in Israel, stated that it is impossible that a man like Yatom, who admitted killing people after they had been captured, will serve in any public position. "The pardon granted Yatom, who was involved in both manslaughter and the fabrication of evidence, is a deep moral stain on the State of Israel and its institutions. Allowing him to serve in any public position whatsoever, and certainly that of advisor to the Prime Minister, is a slap in the face and a mockery of the rule of law and democracy in the State of Israel and hints to the the fact that Sharon has not learned a thing since Sabra and Shatilla.
